Watercolour on paper, (1998). Original size: 63.5 x 60.0 cm. This is Yorkshire: dry-stone walls; a small up-hill down-dale lane, and at the forefront a traveller’s stump, a place to rest a while. And the sun shines strong: short shadows edge the base of the trees and the nether side of the walls. And all is in leaf, nature in full and glorious abundance. (source: BookroomArtPress)

Watercolour, ink and gouache on paper, (1996). Original size: 66.0 x 59.5cm. This, in many ways, is quintessential Palmer and the depiction of an enchanting journey. We are Cycling Home and past a country junction. There’s a classic red ‘low bridge’ sign; a swooping delve and then the road ahead, edged by hedges and tall trees. And the light is that of a sun low in the horizon, low enough to cast shadows across the landscape through which the cyclist travels. (source: BookroomArtPress)

Watercolour on paper. Original size: 88.3 x 65.0 cm. As so often in Palmer’s work the narrative is strong: pilgrims walk along a path between trees, through a wood, and towards a church. But this is not necessarily doctrinal imagery the church, the path, the wood, the book but something universal: life’s ways; life’s travails; the need for rest before continuing; the need for a guide book, green as the surrounding fields, from which to seek direction. It is late summer, early autumn the hay is still in the fields, and there’s light suffusing the picture from a sun low on a distant horizon. (source: BookroomArtPress)

Image Size: 600mm x 450mm (image size does not include paper border, mount and frame) Format: Giclée Print, [ed. size 850] on 310gsm thick 100% cotton rag. Hand-numbered and hand-embossed. Price: £225.00.

Watercolour on paper. Snow, deep and crisp and even, and there’s a preternatural light, such as you experience when snow has newly fallen. As in so many of Palmer’s pictures, there’s a road, curving towards some unspecified destination, past the Wesleyan Chapel and towards, perhaps, the inviting yellow house, so central within the picture. An exquisite capturing, seen through a thicket of winter branches, of a Yorkshire winter scene. (source: BookroomArtPress)
