Frequently Asked Questions
Delivery - Please see our Delivery Charges and Times.
Returns - Yes we accept returns so long as in same condition as when ordered and within one calendar month of placing the order. We strongly suggest getting at least a proof of postage if returning items as we can only refund once returned safely. Please email us at info@theblankcardcompany.co.uk before returninig items so I can give instructions on best return address to send items back to.
Do I Need An Account? No, you can simply ignore login and checkout as a guest. Having an account is useful in that you can save your cart and it will save your address so checking out becomes much easier. An account can be created at first or next checkout.
Artist Submissions? - We are a retailer and gallery rather than art publisher so regrettably we do not accept artist submissions.
Can I order by telephone? - Yes, it's nice to talk to humans once in a while! We'll also answer any questions you have or help with ordering by telephone. If we don't answer immediately leave a message and we'll get back to you. We're a small family business and maintaining human connectedness is so important in a faceless corproare age.
I've lost my cart? Can you retrieve it for me? If you have an account with us and are signed in you can save your cart. If not logged in whether or not your cart is saved when leaving the website depends on your web browser and settings. You might lose your cart if leaving the website. We suggest taking a note of the cards with pen or paper or taking an image of your cart with a smartphone so the cards can be easily found again if not ordering in one sit down session.
Do you use sustainable materials? Yes as far as possible. All cards are printed on ethical sustainable approved materials. Most publishers now supply cards 'naked' (no cello) or biodegradeable packaging. This is a transition and we use different publishers (also in transition from cello wrap to naked or similar) some stock will still have cello bags but less and less and ultimately the move is away from plastic packaging.
Do you have an inclusive policy? Yes, our aim is to be as apolitical and inclusive as possible. We believe strongly in individuality, human sovereignty, and the celebration of the uniquness of the individual viewed strictly through a libertarian lens and not one that leans left or right. We don't 'see' race, gender, sexuality or any other means of division. We see people as individuals, good, bad and somewhere inbetween.
Do you have a real space? - Historically we have existed as a gallery 'Gallery on the Usk' and card shop since 2004, firstly in Crickhowell, Brecon Beacons and later in Stow on the Wold, Cotswolds. In 2006 we set-up TheBlankCardCompany as part of our gallery. In 2020 we 'retired' our gallery space following lockdown, but not directly as a consequence of lockdown. From November 2026 there will be a good selection of our cards at The Old Chapel Gallery in Abbotsbury, Dorset, home of wonderful cameo glass by Helen Millard.
Helen Millard Cameo Glass
Helen Millard completed a degree in glass at West Surrey College of Art and Design in 1989. This was followed by a long enjoyable apprenticeship at The Glass House, Covent Garden and later Islington London between 1990-1998, where she was fortunate for a time to be trained by Ronnie Wilkinson who had been the chief glass maker for the Whitefriars factory in London. Here she became a senior assistant and a production glass maker to Annette Meech, Christopher Williams, David Taylor and Fleur Tookey.
During this period as well as developing her own range of vibrant coloured tableware, Helen continued to develop her engraving skills producing a wide range of 'Graal' and multi coloured surface engraved vessels depicting her enchantment with tropical birds, exotic plants and animals.
From 1999-2005 Helen became lecturer at The International Glass Centre, Brierley Hill, Dudley College, teaching both cold decoration and hot glass techniques. It was during this period in the West Midlands that she came to admire the Cameo glass on display at The Broadfield House Glass Museum and realized the strong links of the early Cameo artists to her own work.
Helen is now thought to be one of the finest Cameo glass engravers in the country with not only the ability to emulate the early Cameo artists but has produced her own style of Cameo art glass using stunning colour combinations to depict her long fascination and passion for nature.
Not only is Helen a gifted engraver, she also blows her blanks, thereby having complete control over the entire process. This is highly unusual, and demonstrates the breadth of her skill.
Having moved to Dorset in 2005, Helen has been increasingly inspired by the surrounding coast and countryside, creating a series of estuary pieces depicting her continued love of birds in their natural habitat. In addition, Helen has continued to meet the growing demand for private commissions as appreciation of her work has accelerated, becoming highly sought after.
Helen has contributed greatly to pioneering contemporary glass and has taught at The Studio of the Corning Museum of Glass, New York State, demonstrating cameo techniques to a new generation of glass artists.
